Withyland Heights
is a working dairy farm on the Gloucestershire / Herefordshire border
and is home to a herd of 150 milking pedigree Holstein Friesian
cows. The original farmhouse was built in the 1830's but has been
more recently extended and is fully double glazed and centrally
heated.
The double room
(which is also a family room) has en suite facilities and spectacular
views of May Hill, one of the highest points in Gloucestershire.
The two twin-bedded
rooms are spacious and attractively furnished and both have wash
hand basins and a shared bathroom with bath and shower. All the
bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities and radio clock alarms.
Downstairs there
is a comfortable lounge / dining room with a colour television for
guests to use during their stay. There, is a large lawn at the back
of the house where children can play safely and guests are very
welcome to look around the farm and watch the milking of the cows
which happens three times daily.
There are many
opportunities for walking in the area and there are several nearby
pubs which supply good evening meals (samples of their menus are
available at Withyland Heights).
Breakfast is
served at a time to suit our guests and if you feel you can't do
justice to a full farmhouse breakfast - sausages, bacon, mushrooms,
tomato and egg, then you can opt for a lighter one of either fruit,
scrambled egg on toast, boiled egg, kippers, croissants or just
toast and cereals. Special diets can be catered for if advanced
notification is given.
The farm is
about 4 miles from the small market town of Newent with its Victorian
Museum, Crime Through Time Museum and National Birds of Prey Centre.
Newent also boasts a newly landscaped lake area which is a particular
attraction in the spring when all the wild daffodils are in bloom.
Ross on Wye
(6 miles) and Gloucester (12 miles) are both easily accessible from
Withyland Heights as are other tourist spots such as The Malverns,
The Cotswolds, The Wye Valley, The Royal Forest of Dean and the
many bustling market towns like Hereford, Ledbury and Tewkesbury.
If you want
to break your journey, the farm is only 2 miles off exit 3 of the
M50 and so is an ideal place to stop over or if you want to get
away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life then come and sample
the peace and tranquillity of unspoilt Herefordshire countryside.
