Steep meadows
of wild flowers and beech woods are the setting for this old fashioned
75 acre hill farm with breathtaking panoramic views over the Golden
Valley. Children especially enjoy the donkey, lambs, chicks and
pigs. Adults may prefer the complete tranquility and abundant wildlife.
Nearby visitors
can find horse-riding, golf, gliding and water-sports. Located midway
between Cirencester, Stroud. Four cottages, one flat. Brochure available.
Westley Farm
is midway between Cirencester and Stroud
on the steep slopes of the Golden valley. The secluded location
and panoramic views make a perfect location for a quiet family holiday
in the heart of the Cotswold hills.
The livestock
on the farm include cattle, sheep and horses. Oscar the donkey craves
a cuddle while Tyke the farm dog visits each cottage in turn to
check on the new occupants. Two cottages are visited regularly by
badgers expecting to be fed. Rabbits abound and a few will
glimpse a deer or a fox. A buzzard hovers overhead patiently watching
for some unlucky rodent.
The farm is
run with a policy of minimal spraying and fertilizing. Consequently
wild flowers are everywhere as rarely seen on modern farms. Cowslips
cover the fields in spring and the woods are carpeted with bluebells.
Primroses, violets and wood anemones abound on the steeper slopes.
The scenery
is highly varied. From the top of the farm panoramic views extend
over the famous Golden Valley with a patchwork of woods, meadows
and picture post-card villages.
If you make
your way down through the woods over Brunel's remarkable Jackdaw
bridge you come to the disused Thames and Severn canal. The towpath
is the start of many different walks through superb wooded scenery
and mellow cotswold villages. The unspoilt villages of Minchinhampton,
Sapperton and Bisley are all about three miles away.
Perhaps the
most remarkable of all is Chalford itself with its unique jumble
of cottages scattered down the hillside. There, are numerous pubs
and eating places nearby offering a range from 'cordon bleu' to
'bangers & mash'.
Each cottage
is unique both in location and layout, shown here is Cockshutt Cottage.
Typically an oriental rug will partly cover a stone flag floor and
a basket stacked with logs sits by the hearth. Don't expect the
curtains to match the bedcover or even the wine glasses to be a
matched set. Comfort without luxury is on offer as can be expected
from our 3 star rating. If you want to see more click the web-site
