Deerhurst Priory is a traditional working farm set in North
Gloucestershire. We are a mainly arable farm set in approx 400
acres on the edge of the River Severn. We have river meadows
with fishing rights and some good opportunities to spot many
species of birds and other wildlife.
The accommodation is approached by traditional granary steps.
The granary is open plan, with twin beds, living area and
kitchenette including small cooker and fridge. There is an
en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and wash hand basin.
There is a television with DVD, hairdryer, iron and ironing
board, and tea and coffee making facilities. There are some
ancient features within the room including stone doorways and
wooden panel ceiling.
Breakfast is served in the living area and is traditional
English Breakfast with locally sourced food from our
predominately farming area. Cereals, toast, croissants and fruit
are also available on a daily basis. Packed lunches can be
ordered the night before.
We are a member of the “Taste of the Cotswolds” food group
which promotes locally grown food which we then serve to our
guests. There is also a very good guide of places to eat within
this scheme.
Formerly the Priory, the farmhouse is attached to the 9th
Century Saxon Church. St Mary’s Church is one of the oldest
churches in England showing off many examples of Saxon
architecture including herringbone brickwork and the renowned
stone carved angel just outside the Granary window.
The Church is still a place of worship and there is a weekly
service, as well as weddings, concerts and other festivals.
Deerhurst’s tranquil setting is also the home of Oddas Chapel,
built by Earl Odda in 1056, now cared for by English Heritage.
We are located 400yards from the River Severn with easy walking
either way, approx 1 mile to Tewkesbury to the North and approx
6 miles to Gloucester with many riverside inns on the way.
The Malvern Hills are an outstanding beauty spot less than half
an hour away with the historic market town of Ledbury on the
West side in Herefordshire and Malvern, the home of the composer
Elgar on the East side in Worcestershire.
The Cotswolds are equally as close with miles of footpaths and
many historic buildings and market towns to discover. The Spa
town of Cheltenham is on the doorstep and offers great shopping,
theatre and eating out plus many more recreations, one of the
most famous being the home of National Hunt racing - Prestbury
Park is a mere 6 miles away and within easy access to parking
even during the Gold Cup Meeting.
Our nearest town is Tewkesbury just 3 miles away offering
Tewkesbury Abbey, various museums, The Roses Theatre, River Boat
Trips, Swimming Pool, Local shops including Antiques and many
excellent restaurants and pubs for a great day out.
